No Need For God?

Explaining Away God

Those of us who are keen on Science will definitely come across this -- “If Science can explain everything, then there is no need for a God.”Stephen Hawking has this to say, “There is a fundamental difference between religion, which is based on authority, [and] science, which is based on observation and reason. Science will win because it works.” I admit it is a pretty solid argument. If Science has the evidence and the theories to explain everything on earth and its origin, then God does really seem to be a made up character that we humans use to “explain” the unexplainable.

If you believed what I wrote just now, you COULDN’T BE MORE WRONG!

Rediscovering God

If God can be “explained away”, then I doubt your God was ever a god. God is not a product of logic or Science because as Paul said to the Men of Athens, “…God does not live in temples built by hands(Science). And He us not served by human hands as if he needed anything” (Acts17:24-25)

Let’s try some logic, using the Scientific way. If God can be explained, then is He still God? If the Almighty can be understood through human knowledge, then is he still “Almighty”? Is having the ability to explain everything proof of God’s non-existence? If it is, I don’t think God is god, but a human puppet.

Explaining VS Creating

But let’s not go too far yet because Science hasn’t actually explained everything yet. But let’s assume that it did explain all of nature. Would Science be able to reproduce it? Technology, as a matter of fact, is an imitation of nature. Humans copied the science of “Glow-In-The-Dark” from animals, artificial fragrances from plants. I could mention more but it would just show that we are just copycats, not creators. Here’s a story to illustrate my point.

All of the Scientists of the world convened one day to discuss about their work. At the end of their discussion, they all agreed that they had no use for God. “We can do everything ourselves now”, they all agreed. The head scientist was sent to meet with God and deliver their message. God listened very patiently as the head scientist explained how Science has evolved to a stage where humans are able to reproduce everything in nature.
Finally God said, “I understand that you don’t need me anymore. But let’s hold a test, shall we?”
The head Scientist nodded in agreement.
“The test is creating man. If you can make a living man by your own means and abilities, then I shall grant your request.”
“Oh, that’s easy. I’ll just need to put some dirt together…”
“Sorry, pal. That’s my dirt. Go get your own!”

Science may be able to explain every little thing in nature one day, but only because God put it there. Who knows? God might be smiling and thinking, “Well it’s about time they realized that!” whenever humans make a new discovery.
