For
everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be
opened. I tell you, keep asking, and it will be given you. Keep seeking, and
you will find. Keep knocking, and it will be opened to you.

First of all, I want to thank God for two things:
-
For giving PMVCF committees the idea to hold a camp.
-
For giving the Parit Buntar (USM Eng. Campus) Varsity
Fellowship the idea to organize a combined camp with PMVCF.
It was a wonderful opportunity and we had a great time of
fellowship with them.
Going for camps is one of my favourite things to do. Usually in camps organised by CFs or
churches, I will learn new things and feel 'energised'. But somehow, this camp
has a different impact on me this time round.
One session that most participants shared as their most
memorable part in this camp is the Way of the Cross session, held at the
last night of the camp. There were 6 stations and the part that impacted me
most was the part where we 'experienced' the nailing of Jesus on the cross. The
video clips (depicting Jesus' way to the cross, paired with songs) shown
afterwards helped to complement my 'experience' too. I realised that Jesus had
to go through all of these because of my sins. Every whip, every drop of blood,
the piercing of His hands and legs, was because of me. If that is so, am I still willing to sin? Am I still
willing to go against His will? A good reminder for me when I face
temptation.
Well, upon knowing that the focus of this camp will be on
the topic of postmodernity, I have prepared myself to discover more about it in the camp. Pastor Yew Kuan Yee (邱君尔传道), our camp speaker, is in my opinion, quite
knowledgeable and able to engage well with listeners of our age. Through the
three sessions that we have with him, I have come to know post-modernity as a
follow-up to the modern era, and not a distinct era itself, at least in the
non-Western context.
I have gained quite a number of insights from his sharing,
but the one thing that spoke to me most is this: Times will change, but God never changes. God is faithful and He
never changes (Psalm 102:25-27, Malachi 3:6, Hebrews 13:8). His Truth is
everlasting. (Mark 13:31, Psalm 117:2, Isaiah 40:8). For us, the postmodern
people, we rely greatly on ‘how we feel’ and we only do things when we ‘feel
like doing it’. Yes, the church has to adapt to the changing times to cater to
a newer and different generation, but the Truth cannot be compromised as a
result. The Truth may be presented in different forms and ways, but the Truth
itself should never change. (As the speaker said, “Different container, same
content.”)
The challenge from ages past remains the same today, that
is, to bring the constant, eternal
Truth into the lives of people with shifting
hearts and minds. Well, that is the Holy Spirit’s job, and I can only pray
that God will use me according to His
ways to accomplish this.
Times change, God never.
“I · Searching”.
From this camp, I have not only found out what to have in my life, but also
what to search for in my life. – God’s
will for me. I pray that we will continue searching for this in our lives.

Searching” Camp)
